Art Therapy
Healing is sensory. In addition to regulating the nervous system through Brainspotting, EFT, and mindfulness, I offer art therapy as an embodied, creative outlet for processing. Making art reduces stress, is a safe way to explore feelings, and promotes health and healing.
What is an art therapy session like? I have a variety of materials, and my training gives me an understanding of what would be therapeutic and appropriate for the session. Often, I provide a directive - a specific theme, use of a particular material, or type of artmaking that I feel could be helpful. Other times, you'll create something you have envisioned or that naturally comes out of the process of using materials. Sometimes we talk throughout the entire session, and sometimes a period of quiet art making is followed by finding meaning in the art. The process of art making, not the final product, is the focus and the power of art therapy.
Specialized
Sexual Abuse
Treatment
Healing is possible, and you are not alone.
I have advanced training and experience working with survivors of sexual trauma. During the first years of my career, I worked in a Family Sexual Abuse Treatment program at a community mental health agency, where I provided individual, group, and family therapy, and taught classes for non-offending caregivers. I also received training in facilitating the Clarification process, helping to support survivors through a structured therapeutic intervention in which the person who caused harm takes full responsibility for their actions and the impact.
Sexual abuse treatment has complexity and layers, and I provide care with sensitivity and deep respect for your pacing and what healing means to you.
